Bloodsport

I meant to post this last week also, but well, yeah, I’m not great at getting to non work things that involve computers.  Anyway, I worked at home last January 13th.  Danielle put Thomas down for his nap and he was unusually cry-y and took a while to finally pass out.  Anyway, two + hours later he awoke and Danielle went in to greet him.  I was way up at the front of our place but had no problem hearing her calling for me.  Sounding very worried.

So I jogged back to his room to find her holding a confused, cute, and very bloody Thomas.  It seems he’d had his first bloody nose and proceeded to rub face and then pass out.  What you see here is the aftermath.  Please don’t call DSS.

Tap, tap. Is this thin on?

Wow, founding a startup does not leave a lot of time for fun things like blogging about your baby boy.

First, here’s the last video Dropped Calls from last month. I’m glad I captured this, as his using the old iPod as a phone was hilarious, but short lived.

So today, Thomas stayed home with me as GrandmaCare was closed due to the illness we’re all suffering from.  So, we did a ton of playing. While I was making lunch, I noticed that it distinctive lack of sound that can be found in any room without a Thomas. Curious, I went looking for him. I found him in the front room hammering away on my laptop. Danielle recently bought him a new t-shirt. It says “I look just like Momma, but I act just like Daddy.” So very true.

Other than the massive cold we’ve all be suffering from for the last two weeks, we’re good. He’s amazing, hilarious, difficult, smart, and so much fun. He’s our little blessing and I love him more with every passing day.

Another Friday with Thomas

And I should have gone to bed 6 hours ago when he did.  Instead, I put this together.

Showdown at the livingroom floor

I’m way behind on videos.  Now that I’ve discovered the magic that is iMovie, I want to give every video the treatment it deserves, but alas, there is no time.  I have work which cuts deep into most nights, I have mornings with Thomas, evenings of dinner with Danielle.  There are just not enough hours in the day.   Maybe I’ll have to get back to just posting all sorts of random videos …

Until then, here’s one from last Friday morning.  Thomas’ standing and cruising has improved immensely since then.

As always, the full resolution video can be seen on http://www.snaptom.com/baby.

Momma’s sick, Da da’s sick, boy seems ok thusfar

Danielle has been getting her butt kicked by a cold for the past four days (not that it’s slowed her down) and it looks as though it’s now taking hold of me.  Blah.  Boy on the other hand seems good.  He’s always a bit snotty and has developed a Kung Fu-like defense against the bulb blower (sucker?  what is that thing called), but still he seems healthy.  As a matter of fact, he’s happily playing in the crib right now.

So what’s been going on with him?  Well, he’s been doing so much lately, I don’t know where to start.  He’s still work on a few words.  Yesterday he actually said clock when a round wall clock was on the TV.  Danielle was pretty amused by that one.  He also won’t ever say a word when he’s not looking at it.  The one exception seems to be when he calls “Da da” loudly rom another room for me (or Danielle, not sure if it’s an all purpose word).  He says it with such intent communicating “hey, I”m lonely”, “get in here”, and “hello?” all in two sylables.

Another big one lately is that his personality is developing more and more every day.  He’s stubborn (where’d he get that), loves to laugh (and has a new smile to go along with his aging laugh), and its hard to believe but is even more aware of everything and everyone around him.  His constant inspecting of eveything is both a blessing and a curse.  Though, it’s especially fun when we put him in shopping carts.  If we’re quick, his curiousity will buy us time to actually get things done in the store.  Not having to have him in the stroller is a nice change too.  Yeah, and shopping carts are dirty.  Who cares?  We are so not those “quick, clean him – where’s the antibacterial” people.

Of course, the biggest change in our little maniac is that he is now mobile.  He’s not really crawling in the four legged sense yet, though he has thrown down isolated examples of perfectly coordinated gate, only to have it break down and land him on his face.   So the crawling is more or less soldier’s crawling.  He’s improved to the point of “don’t turn your back on him, cause he’ll be gone”.   I’m not sure when he’ll switch to regular dog-like crawling, as he seems happy with his ability to carry toys from place to place while soldier crawling.

I still have about a two week backlog in pics of him that I’ll hopefully get through tonight.  He’s changing so much, I don’t want to miss it, but this not wanting to miss it is filling up hard drives and time at a seemingly exponential rate.  I did get a new video put together yesterday though.   Sorry for the folks who can’t view the videos, we’ll post some more pics tonight.

Almost crawling in three easy steps

In the last 48 hours Thomas has gone from not really being able to get up onto all fours consistantly, to almost, kinda, sorta crawling.

Here’s a video from yesterday morning.  He’s improved by leaps and bounds since then.

We are in trouble.

A small section of our kitchen floor is way cleaner now!

On Friday morning (Jan 2nd), Thomas and I spent some time playing on the floor of our kitchen.  Here is the result.

Boycott sleep 2009!

We’re not sure what cause Thomas is trying to support, but he is definitely boycotting sleep in 2009.  And I have to admit, at this point, after no good nights sleep in nearly two weeks, I’m ready to give into any demand – just let us sleep boy!

Yesterday seemed as thought it would be a banner day.  He took his first good morning nap since the Tuesday before Christmas (the day we flew out to Cleveland).  He followed up with an okay nap in the afternoon.  He fought sleep a bit when Danielle put him down, but passed out in less than 15 minutes.  Then he proceeded to get up at least four times last night.  Oh, and he got up for good at 6:20am.  He’s presently playing in the crib, while I type away next to him.  This is going to be an interesting day.

So what else has been changing.  Well, since we got home from Cleveland on Monday, he’s not done much talking.  A “clock” here or there, but overall, no words.  Until this morning, when he jumped back on the “book”  train, and hard.  He’s said book, or some similar variation about two-hundred times.  Of course, as I typed that, he started saying “Da da” just to make me a liar.  What a stinker (in more ways that one … darn you “real” food!)

On that note, I give you Thomas’ latest production. It’s actually from right before we went to Cleveland, but it took me a while to get it up online.

Ok, someone’s rubbing his face and looking tired. I’m going to get on out of his room and hopefully he’ll fall back asleep. I might have better odds with the lottery . Oh, and the reason he’s been such a bear? Well, tooth number three is about to break through. His top-right front tooth has been flexing it’s pain muscles for at least a week. Break through already you darn tooth!

Update (15 minutes later): The Threat Level has been lowered from High to Elevated.  The boy is back alseep.

Thomas and the clock

When we were getting ready to leave the other day, I was home with Thomas and we were just walking around.  I stopped as I entered the kitchen and noticed that he was looking at the wall clock.  He was just staring at it.  So, I grabbed the camera (out of my pocket – be prepared!) and held it up.  What happened can be seen below.  You’ll need to have the volume up pretty loud to hear his “ka” sounds.  Since then, he’s been just bursting out at clocks all over Danielle’s parent’s house and elsewhere.  It’s hilarious.  Oh, and he’s also saying a form of book and dog.  Dada and Moma seem to have fallen by the wayside.
